KLLO ‘UNFAMILIARSURROUNDINGS’

Featuring tracks from Four Tet, SZA, Tyler, The Creator and Kelela, this week’s mix is brought to you by Melbourne-based cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam – aka Kllo. Formed in 2014, the duo fuse elements of R&B, UK garage and 2-step with warm, smoky vocals that come courtesy of Kaul.

Their first full-length album, Backwater, dropped earlier this month to widespread critical acclaim, and they’re now nearing the end of an extensive tour that’s taken them from one side of the world to the other over the course of the last few months.

It’s this time spent on the road that inspired their oki-ni mix, UNFAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS – “it’s a selection of the tracks that helped us push through the hard times on tour. There wasn’t much alone time, but at times it did feel quite lonely – we were constantly dealing with unfamiliar surroundings, never staying in one place more than a couple of days. The songs we’ve chosen were all very comforting to us – they were familiar and relatable at a time when things were very much up in the air” says Kaul.
